The Japanese iris, Iris ensata, is a plant that has been known for centuries. Flowers of this iris belong to nature's most intricate works and are famous for their beauty. Our garden store offers an intriguing Dinner Plate Tiramisu variety.  It belongs to beardless, rhizomous irises. Mature plants grow 80 to 100 centimetres tall. Flower stalks barely outgrow the sword-shaped leaves. Flowers of the Japanese iris are flattened and significantly larger than blooms of other iris species. The Dinner Plate Tiramisu produces white flowers with purple speckles and yellow stripes at petal bases. Edges of that flower are slightly frilled, tender, and finely formed. The flowering period starts in May and often extends into June. The spectacular flowers of this plant make a great figure as cut flower and when grown in pots, but first and foremost, is a perfect plant for arranging beds and borders, particularly those next to water.

Choose a sunny or partially shaded site with a fertile, fertilized, and acidic soil for planting Japanese iris. It grows well in the most of garden soils, provided you keep the humidity on the desired level.  Irises should be planted in spring. The recommended planting depth of the rhizomes is five to ten centimetres, and the spacings between plants about 30 centimetres. Change the site every three to four years. This iris must remain at a dry spot only during the dormancy. Iris ensata is a hardy plant, but it must be covered during cold and snowless winters. This perennial is easy to grow and blooms rather quickly.

Indicated price is valid for 1 first choice rhizome of the Japanese iris of the presented variety. The bag with the rhizome is equipped with a label that contains basic plant facts and growing instructions.
