Effendi Oriental poppy is a plant with coarsely haired leaves and shoots. Erect stems of this plant grow up to 80 centimetres in height. Attractive, dentate leaves form dense rosettes. Bright green colour and an intriguing growth form attract attention even before this poppy starts to flower. The mesh-like build of the Oriental poppy constitutes a unique background for its flowers. Variety offered here produces wide, salmon-pink, cup-shaped flowers. Their delicate petals are almost round and slightly wrinkled. Darker centres add character to them. Oriental poppy is the plant for naturalistic gardens, flower meadows, or country-style compositions. Due to their specific vegetation scheme, we recommend to plant poppies on mixed beds where other plants will gradually cover empty spots left by poppies.
Oriental poppies grow well in deep, fertile, well-drained soil, in the sun or partial shade. This species does not like to be transplanted, so plan carefully. A characteristic feature of the Oriental poppy is that it dies after flowering. Trim down the tufts afterwards. Poppy grows back in autumn in preparation for the next season. Please note, that you might be forced to tie and support the tallest shoots with large flowers.
