The garden verbena (Verbena x hybrida) with red blooms adorned with a white dot will enchant every garden visitor. This rather low-growing (20 - 40 cm tall) annual plant sporting a broad and dense habit owes its ornamental value to the tiny, oval leaves and umbel inflorescences that consist of dozens of flat blooms. Their petals are bright red. A contrasting white dot can be seen in the centre of each flower. Charming tufts that are covered with graceful flowers from June until the autumn frosts look great in hanging baskets, bowls and boxes, although field cultivation is also possible.
In order to achieve the best results, garden verbena seeds should be sown in early spring into multipots or seeding trays. Seed material needs stable humidity level and moderately high temperature to germinate. The plants will quickly produce flower buds after the transplantation to decorative containers or into the field, as long as we provide them with sunlight and a fertile, permeable, non-acidic soil. Red-and-white blooms of the variety offered here harmonise with red and white tropical sage varieties, nemesias and touch-me-nots.
