The Herbstfreude orpine (Sedum telephium) belongs to tall varieties that look great on borders. This up to 60 centimetres tall perennial flowers in the second half of summer and pleases garden guests even late in autumn, or even in winter when its flowers have long wilted. Variety offered here in our store is characterized by a dense, erect, tuft-like habit. Flower clusters formed as wide umbels develop atop its stiff erect stems in August. Those panicles, consisting of hundreds of tiny, deep red flowers, are dense and thick. They immediately attract attention. Their saturated, warm colour perfectly harmonizes with the fresh green colour of the ornamental leaves.

Seedlings of the Herbstfreude stonecrop can be planted on various sites, including dry and sunny ones. The undemanding and drought-resistant Sedum is a perfect plant for rock gardens. It will thrive on embankments and dry situations under sunny walls with southern exposure. Presented variety looks exceptionally well in combination with other flowering perennials and late summer and autumn shrubs: hydrangea, dahlia, eastern purple coneflower, and a wide array of low growing rock garden plants. We recommend planting the Herbstfreude stonecrop in pairs with its colourful relatives, the Munstead Dark Red, Summer Surprise, and Vera Jameson varieties that produce red leaves and shoots.
