Low growing and charming variety of the netted iris, "Painted Lady" delights with its subtle habit. The extremely ornamental iris blooms can be recognized from far away. Even though they are easy to grow, they can be seldom found in gardens in the last years.

The iris variety presented here develops beardless, multicolour flowers. They display their intricate structure quite low, about 20 cm above the ground. Lower petals are slightly bent downwards and are decorated with a subtle pattern that looks like painted with watercolours in different shades of yellow and blue. All six petals display blue veining. Iris leaves are lanceolate and underscore the beauty of the delicate blooms. This variety is a true early bloomer. It shows the first signs of life in February already and the blooms appear a month later.

These plants grow well on sunny, warm, wind-sheltered sites on the well-drained soil with slightly acidic or neutral reaction. Bulb irises do not stand too much humidity in the ground and shade. They react well to organic fertilizing. We recommend to cover iris bulbs with twigs, dried leaves or tree bark before the winter.

Tiny irises "Painted Lady" are perfect for border edgings. You may also plant them alongside the paths in combination with other bulbous plants. The early blooming flower heads in intriguing colours are an intriguing proposal for rock gardens. Irises are commonly grown in containers and forced grown for cut flowers.
