"Burgundy" okra (Hibiscus esculentus), also known under common name lady's fingers or locally as okro and ochro, will appeal both to lovers of unusual ornamental plants and exotic fruit and vegetable afficionados. Presented variety has an erect and broad habit. Its stems are decorated with large, denticulated leaves and beautiful, conical, yellow-red flowers, from which develop elongated, crimson fruit that bring icicles to mind. Young fruit can be cooked, fried or preserved. In case of the ripe, mature fruit it is recommended to collect their seeds, that can be used as healthy snack after roasting, and as coffee substitute when minced.
Okra is grown from seedlings. Seeds for that purpose need to be sown in spring to a cool hotbed or at home, preferably under glass. Hardened seedlings can be transplanted to a vegetable bed or border after the last frosts. "Burgundy" cultivar needs a permeable, loose, yet fertile soil and a sunny, warm site. Its appetizing, beautifully coloured fruit can be harvested from mid-July until end of August.
Each package contains 2 g of "Burgundy" okra seeds. Growing instructions and the sow-by date have been included in the product information.
