The 'Mary Washington' asparagus grows quickly and brings rich harvest. It produces straight, thick and soft stems that take on dark green, slightly purplish colour. They come with an excellent, subtle taste, are tender and crunchy. Asparagus stems are served like French bean - boiled only for a short time. Seeds of the cultivar presented here need to be soaked in water for 3 to 5 days before the sow that happens early in the spring on a hotbed and in the second half of spring on the seed bed. Plants should grow spaced 10 x 30 cm in the first year of cultivation and 30 x 80 cm in the second season.
Asparagus (Asparagus officinalis) is a perennial plant of the moderate climate. Although it is frost resistant and easy in cultivation it is still rather uncommon in gardens. This vegetable is valued for its exceptional taste. Asparagus stems contain ca. 5-6% of dry weight, 1.6-1.8% of proteins, phosphorus, calcium, iron, vitamin C (26-30 mg), vitamins B1 and B2 and nicotinic acid. They are nutritious, low-calorie and digestible at the same time.
Packages available in our store contain 2 g of the 'Mary Washington' asparagus seeds.
