Small periwinkle is a spectacular perennial that consists of evergreen leaves and white flowers. Compact periwinkle carpets that consist of shiny, leathery, oval leaves wonderfully cover ground. Densely growing thin periwinkle shoots that support small white flowers are a picturesque sight. Lesser periwinkle, as this plant is also called, is usually planted under trees and larger shrubs, in rock gardens, and in planters. It looks good on the foreground of a flower bed. It develops with long runners that spread over the ground. Subtle, five-petal small periwinkle flower appear continuously from April to August. Small periwinkle leaves are sold as medicinal herb. It is used for lowering blood pressure, mitigating vertigo symptoms, and oxygenating the body.
Presented perennial does not have any special requirements. It should develop well in the majority of gardens. A humous, fertile, moderately moist soil is optimal for this plant. Use all-purpose mixed fertilizers to feed it. Plant small periwinkle between the beginning of April and end of September. Leave about 25-centimetre spacings between seedlings. You would need about twelve plants to cover one square metre of land. Plants spread quickly, reaching one metre in length and twenty centimetres in height. This perennial belongs to partially hardy plants, it usually winters well. It is quite resistant to period drought too.
