If tulips are the soul of a flowering garden, the Sonnet tulip definitely belongs to its most stunning incarnations. This extraordinary variety captivates onlookers not only with the graceful shape of its petals, but also with their changing colours. At the beginning of the flowering period, the round, conical flowers take on a brick-red colour with hint of cooler purple, while their edges surprise with a golden-yellow shade. As the calyx opens wider and wider, middle parts of the petals darken to plum purple, while the golden edges take on a warmer, apricot-pink shade. This colourful spectacle takes place at the turn of April and May.

Plant sonnet tulip bulbs in small groups of five to a dozen. If you have a larger space to arrange, try planting a wide single-species strip, where the colour-changing flowers look even more spectacular. Late autumn is the recommended planting time. Do not forget that the plants can stay several years at the same site, blooming reliably and long every year. Choose an open, sunny, or slightly shaded place. Presented tulip belongs to relatively tall varieties - it reaches height of about 50 centimetres - and can therefore be grown for cut flowers.
