The sweet alyssum, whose dark purple flowered variety we present here, is an abundantly blooming annual plant. It forms large, dense, pillow-like tufts. The plants spread their short, broadly branched stems on the ground. Each of the tufts consist of small, lanceolate, grey-green leaves and small four-petal blooms gathered in clusters atop the stalks. This plant blooms all season long from June to the end of September. The pleasantly scented flowers appear on the plant in thousands, giving it an undeniably charming appearance and making it a beautiful garden and container decoration. It is a perfect seasonal plant for rock gardens and walls, but it also forms great partnerships with taller plants. The pillow-shaped subtle appearance combined with the large amount of flowers are responsible for the high standing of the sweet alyssum among low edging plants and those intended for filling gaps between other species.
Sweet alyssum does not have high requirements. It is exceptionally easy to grow and thrives in every kind of soil. It prefers sunny sites or those that remain for several hours in shade. Sow directly late in spring onto the permanent site. This plant does not require any special treatment. It will react well to fertilization on the lowest quality soils.
One package contains 0,5 g seeds of the dark purple sweet alyssum. The basic plant facts, growing instructions and the sow-by date can be found on the back side of the package.
