The Bastia variety that belongs to the fringed (Crispa) tulips displays a wide palette of colours. Its double flowers are usually golden and adorned with subtle blush of raspberry pink and red stripes. You can also spot darker tones mixed with green stripes on the outside of the petals. You might even discover a brownish halo among this wild play of colours. This latest discovery of tulip growers consists of double petals that end with hundreds of tiny needles. Its distinct colours and extravagant shape leave no doubt, who will become the main attraction of the garden season. It will put on quite a show when combined with the late blooming daffodils and ornamental onions.

The Bastia tulip looks great on perennial borders and flower beds in the centre of a lawn. Its stiff and strong stems allow you to grow it alongside pavements and paths. Bastia tulips are excellent cut flowers, too. The stylish bouquets composed of them retain fresh looks for a long time.

Tulip bulbs planted in autumn will grow well in almost every type of garden soil, provided it is permeable and not too compact. They require a site with at least 5-6 hours of sunlight exposure in order to develop properly. You may plant them in company of trees and shrubs that do not fully develop foliage during their blooming periods. Planting depth should be at least 10-15 cm. Water the bulbs after planting in order to allow them to take root before the winter. If you did not apply compost before planting, you may feed tulips with multi-compound fertilizers until the blooming period. Water your tulips regularly until the leaves begin to yellow naturally. Yearly excavation of bulbs is not necessary, yet recommended. Dry and clean the excavated bulbs end of June / beginning of July and store in an airy, dark place until planting time.

Each package contains 5 bulbs of the Bastia tulip. Basic growing instructions can be found on the package label.
