The Kolpakowskiana tulip belongs to the species or botanical tulip division and develops yellow flowers with an orange, green or reddish glow on the outside. The pointed petals unfold in the middle of spring. Its leaves are narrow, soft, greyish-green and rather inconspicuous. The Kolpakowskiana tulip that originates from the Central Asia will unfold only on sunny, cloudless days, though. It can be seldom found in gardens. It is mostly planted in rock gardens that imitate the natural conditions in which it grows in the wild. We recommend this variety for permeable gravel soils. It is perfectly suited for naturalizing lawns in the garden. It will also work well on borders and path edgings.

Tulips are rather undemanding in regard to growing conditions. These plants do not require much attention from the gardener. You only need to learn their basic requirements regarding the site in order to enjoy the beautiful flowers. Tulips grow best in the medium heavy to light soil. The loam-sandy soil should be permeable, rich in nutrients and the organic matter. It is recommended to avoid planting tulips in the waterlogged, acid, heavy or dried soil. Tulips prefer sunny sites, yet several hours of shade per day will not hurt them. We recommend to prepare the site for tulip cultivation in advance. The soil should be cultivated, weeded and the larger stones removed from it. The admixture of finely ground compost will provide the bulbs with the much needed support at the start. You may also add some sand in order to make the soil lighter. Tulips do not need to be excavated every year, but we recommend to do so every 3 to 4 years in order to strengthen the plants. This would also allow you to propagate the tulips by separating the bulblets. Tulips tolerate Central European winters and may grow at the same site for at least a few years.

Tulip bulbs have to be planted in autumn. September and October are considered the perfect time for planting. The optimal planting depth equals two heights of a bulb. The planting distance depends on the visual effect you would like to achieve.

Each package contains 5 bulbs of the Kolpakowskiana tulip, sized 6 to 7 cm in circumference. The packaging label contains the basic information about the plant and the growing instructions.
