White-flowered Persian lily belongs to the Liliaceae (lily family). Like other members of this family it stuns with exceptional beauty. Tall, erect stems, densely covered with flowers eagerly present their charms on garden borders. A grouping of several Persian lily plants might become an intriguing garden ornament. This outstanding beauty comes from Turkey. It blooms end of April / beginning of May in Central European climate.

A thick stem surrounded by densely packed leaves sprouts from a relatively large bulb. The whole plant is covered with a waxy layer that gives it an intriguing, grey-yellowish colour. Flowers appear on the stem on dense pedicels. The cup-shaped bells are creamy-white and green. The whole inflorescences takes on a conical shape. This plant offers unique sights thanks to its contrasting colouring.

Persian lilies should be grown on a fertile site. The soil needs to be rich in nutrients and enriched with compost. These plants like sunny or only partially shady sites. You should thoroughly think over the planting of Persian lilies, as they do not stand transplanting and best results are achieved by planting them on the same site for several years. The excess of water may hurt the plants. It is worth to protect the bulbs with a drainage layer of sand or plant them on ground elevations.

White-flowered Persian lilies are typical border plants that are ideal for growing on sites encompassing other bulbous or early spring perennials. Tall inflorescences consisting of greenish bell-shaped flowers look great planted alongside building walls, fences and hoardings. The extraordinary colours allow for creating intriguing arrangements and gradual introduction of the more intense colours.
