The "Montgomery" astilbe (Astilbe), sometimes referred to as false spirea, is a highly ornamental perennial plant. The main feature of the variety offered here are their beautiful, crimson-red, fluffy inflorescences that tower over the ground on the same-coloured shoots. The astilbe remains decorative outside the flowering period thanks to its odd pinnate, feathery, denticulate leaves that are red in spring. The variety presented here belongs to the Japonica cultivar group. The "Montgomery" astilbe grows medium strong and reaches maximum height of 75 cm. The seedlings should be planted 40 - 45 cm apart. Blooms of the "Montgomery" astilbe appear in June and July, but are ornamental right from the closed buds stage. This bushy, compact plant looks great on borders, in vicinity of ponds and other water reservoirs or in larger groupings on lawns. It may be grown in containers, too. Stiff stems do not need staking and the intensely coloured flowers immediately attract attention. They perfectly harmonise with white flowers. Combining astilbe with bergenias, rodgersias, Siberian bugloss or hostas. Astilbe inflorescences may be used as cut flower and in dried bouquets.

Fertile, moist soil with slightly acidic reaction suits astilbe best. The site should be sunny or partially shady. We recommend to mulch the site with decomposed manure or a thick layer of bark, that would keep the soil moist and enrich it at the same time. Avoid drying out of the site during flowering period at all costs. Excavate the rhizomes every 4 years and rejuvenate the clumps by splitting the rhizomes.

One package contains 1 rhizome sized 2/3. Plant growing instructions have been printed on every package.
