Pumpkin Atlantic Giant is famous for its truly colossal fruits (Cucurbita maxima), which can reach up to 300 kg when grown well. This is a late variety, yet rewarding to cultivate, producing strong, long trailing vines that need plenty of space to show their full potential. The fruits develop a rich orange skin with gentle ribbing, and inside you will find thick, aromatic yellow flesh. Alongside its impressive size, Atlantic Giant offers excellent flavour and works beautifully for baking, creamy soups, cakes, jams, and preserves. Once fully mature, the fruits can be stored throughout winter without losing their taste or nutritional value.
Sow the seeds 3-4 cm deep. This depth supports reliable germination and helps young plants develop into strong seedlings.
Sow outdoors in May, once the soil has warmed and the risk of spring frost has fully passed. Under these conditions, plants establish quickly and grow vigorously.
For a head start, sow under cover in April. This allows you to raise sturdy transplants that can be moved to their final position in May, helping you achieve an earlier and more generous harvest.
Plant out in the second half of May, when days are warm and the soil is well heated. Strong young plants settle in fast and produce powerful vines that later carry impressive fruits.
Space plants about 200 x 100 cm apart. This variety needs a great deal of room, which is essential for producing large, well shaped fruits with a healthy interior. The more sun and space the plant has, the more spectacular the results.
Harvest from September to November, ideally once the skin has developed a deep, intense colour. The fruits are very durable and can be stored until early spring, allowing you to enjoy them for many months.
Atlantic Giant grows best in a sunny spot with fertile, free-draining soil that is well enriched. This is a hungry plant that responds to regular watering and feeding with vigorous growth and very large fruits. It can become a real highlight of the garden and a centrepiece of autumn harvests, perfect for growers who enjoy a challenge as well as those who want wholesome, homegrown food.
