The Blue Angel hosta (Hosta), also called plantain lily, fully deserves its noble name. It belongs to vigorous compact varieties of its species. It produces large. cordate leaves decorated with shallow grooves in the leaf blade. Its trademark feature is of course the unusual, cool, pleasant, nice colour. Hosta, a typical plant for shady situations, would look splendid in a more secluded garden corner, in partial shade of trees and tall shrubs, under a West-facing wall, or at the edge of a pond. Hosta harmonizes with ferns. The blue-leaved hosta varieties look particularly picturesque with the rare purple ferns, particularly in summer when they produce their lily-white, bell-shaped flowers.
Hosta rhizomes should be planted in spring or autumn. Choose a place where the plants would not lack shade nor humidity. Hosta grows fastest in moderately compact soil that is rich in humus. It does not fear frost, but might require some covering, e.g. mulching during snowless winters.
One package contains 10 rhizomes of the Blue Angel hosta. Essential growing instructions have been printed on each package.
