Canna lily is a plant species that produces large underground rhizomes. It is well known among European gardeners as a tropical beauty that delights with a splash of huge, oval leaves, and panicles of asymmetric flowers. The colours of both the leaves and flowers may appear in various combinations. The leaves are usually bright juicy green, dark brown, or purple. Varieties with bicolour, striped leaves, are included in the presented selection. A large, rich cluster of canna flowers takes on distinct, warm colours. This group of plants displays various shades of red, orange, yellow, salmon-pink, and peach orange. Many of the grown varieties produces bicolour flowers that are covered with a contrasting edge or spots. The unique asymmetric form of the flowers is also exceptionally decorative.

The vegetation period of a canna lily is quite long. In order to speed up the flowering, it is worth planting cannas early in pots. Place a single rhizome in a large pot. It must be positioned vertically, with the eyes up. Cover it with a thin layer of soil and water thoroughly. Place the pots with planted canna rhizomes in a bright and moderately heated room. Transfer them to the ground after the last frost in spring. Leave 50 to 60 centimetre spacings between them. You can also plant the rhizomes directly on borders, but the flowering period will be delayed in comparison to forced plants.

Canna belongs to plants that are relatively easy to use but has its own specific requirements. It likes sunlight and situations sheltered from wind and heavy rainfall. This species likes fertile soil that is rich in nutrients and loosened. This plant likes to be watered in the summer and fertilized. You can enrich the soil with compost or manure at the beginning of cultivation or even earlier, in autumn. We recommend removing wilted flowers regularly to significantly extend the flowering period.

The heat-loving cannas should be excavated. In autumn, cut the stems about ten to fifteen centimetres high over the ground and dig out the rhizomes. Remove the excess soil and dry them slightly. Store them in pots filled with peat or sawdust in rooms at temperatures within the range of 5 to 8?C. You can repeat the planting cycle for many years. You can split the growing rhizomes and win new plants that way.

One package contains 1 first choice rhizome of the canna colour selection. Basic plant facts and growing instructions can be found on the package label.
