The Red King Humbert canna lily stands out from the garden greenery with its purple foliage and blood-red flowers. This imposing plant, growing on average to a height of 80 to 120 centimetres, constitutes a phenomenal decoration of sunny spots in the garden, as well as large planters on a balconies and terrace. The delightful contrast that this canna lily offers, can become a great inspiration to create a fabulously colourful border or pot arrangement. Leaf colour that changes from green to purple-brown gives this variety an extraordinary charm. Atop erect, non-branching stems, asymmetric flowers appear from mid-summer to late autumn. Presented variety looks even more spectacular in a large group or a long row along a hedge or a wall. The proud, bright Red King Humbert canna lily introduces a charming tropical accent to any garden. This plant quickly becomes gardener's favourite, as it is fairly easy to grow and usually free from pests and diseases.

The exotically looking canna lily does not tolerate the cold. You have to wait with planting them in garden until mid-May, until the threat of spring frost has passed. There is another method of cultivation for the impatient, forcing plants in pots. Home cultivation allows you to obtain early flowering and larger plants than those developing in the ground from the start. Canna lily loves to bask in the sun. The place where you intend to grow your canna lily should not be exposed to drafts and gusty winds. All canna lily varieties need plenty of nutrients, hence the soil they grow in should be rich in humus and deeply cultivated. Proper drainage is also recommended, and this is valid for pots too. Additional care is basically limited to removal of faded flowers to prevent plants from producing seeds. Watering and fertilization is a sine-qua-non requirement.

Do not forget to dig out canna lily rhizomes in autumn and store in rooms where temperature does not fall below 0ºC. The growing cycle repeats next spring.
