The wintering onion of the excellent 'Senshyu Yellow' Dutch variety stands out with reliable yielding and resistance to frost. It belongs to medium late varieties and is intended for planting end of September and at the beginning of October. It can be harvested already in May, in bundles for fresh market. You will be able to pick fresh white bulbs in June, while the onions harvested in July are already covered with scales, hence can be stored short term.

The presented variety enjoys high popularity among industrial and amateur growers. It develops round or slightly flattened bulbs that are covered with golden scale that is sturdy when dried. It brings rich yield already in the first year of cultivation. Planting wintering onions brings exceptional benefits. It allows to achieve higher yield, reduces the risk of freezing and allows to harvest early.

Wintering green onion requires a medium compact soil that is rich in humus and does not crust. We recommend to weed the site thoroughly and remove stones from it before planting onion bulbs.  Check the soil reaction before planting, as onions do not tolerate acidic soils. The pH between 6.0 and 7.0 is considered optimal for cultivation of these plants.

Green wintering onions should be planted deeper - the tips should be covered with a 3 to 4 centimetres thick layer of soil. Set the bulbs 5 to 6 centimetres apart and allow for 20 to 25 centimetres between the rows.
