Winter garlic "Arkus" (Allium sativum) is a very valuable, wintering variety that is intended for planting in autumn. It belongs to early varieties and matures only 7 days later than the "Harnas" cultivar. "Arkus" develops flowering stalks, atop of which the spherical inflorescences ending with air-filled bulbils appear. These plants develops medium long, erect leaves covered with strong waxy coating. This garlic produces round bulbs that weigh 50 – 60 g on average. They are covered with a white-purple, sometimes greyish scale with distinct veining. 4 to 7 cloves are hidden underneath and are covered with brown-purple scales. These bulbs are valuable material for the pharmaceutical industry. They are also great for direct consumption and processing, as addition to sauces, conserves, meat and vegetable dishes.
Favourable conditions for garlic growing can be found across whole Europe. This plant prefers sandy-clay, permeable, yet sufficiently moist soil that should have a pH close to 6.8. Plant it in autumn, while the harvest of the bulbs of the "Arkus" variety would be possible at the end of June already. Suitability for storage is one of the bigger advantages of this variety. Thanks to this feature the bulbs are long lived and durable.
The package contains 5 bulb (0,20 - 0,25 kg) of "Arkus" winter onion bulbs sized circa 4 cm in diameter.
