The Honka Dark dahlia is the most stunning variety of its line. Its reddish-black flowers with a yellow heart bring a magical touch to every garden. A single whorl of the inward bent petals looks great on flower beds, lawns, and in planters. The 60 to 70 centimetres tall plants are a great idea to spice up your garden with a hint of a rare colour. A constellation of dark stars with contrasting eyes in the middle is the hit of the season. It is worth waiting for until the second half of summer. This unique colour has been bred to create magnificent, deep contrasts with bright saturated colours, such as yellow, white, and orange. Planting the outlandish, subtle Honka Dark dahlia alone in a single-colour group also brings excellent visual effects. The way in which you use this unique long flowering variety depends only on your imagination.
Dahlia does not belong to species whose growing presents a challenge to gardeners. It can be successfully grown in most gardens, provided some basic requirements are met. The access to sunlight is key in growing healthy and beautifully coloured dahlias. Due to the frailty of the stems it is advised to grow them on sites sheltered from strong wind. Staking might still be needed in some cases. Dahlia requires neutral or slightly acidic soil that is rich in nutrients, permeable, and constantly moist. Plant the tuberous rootstock 5 to 10 centimetres deep, between April and July. It is highly recommended to wait with the planting until mid-May to avoid late frost. Dahlia plants require watering and feeding with fertilizers, as well topping of the wilted flowers. Dahlia rootstock must be excavated in autumn and stored in temperature above freezing point until the next planting in spring.
Each package contains 1 premium quality piece of Honka Dark dahlia rootstock. Basic plant growing instructions can be found on the package.
