The Kennemerland dahlia belongs to cactus dahlias. Its characteristic petals constitute the main decoration of juicy yellow flowers. Narrow, sharp tipped petals that are rolled at two thirds of their height are supposed to resemble long spikes - and cactuses. The combination of lime yellow and light green leaves bursts with energy that is worth using in refreshing the image of your garden.

Tall dahlias - they grow up to 110 centimetres tall - to which the presented variety belongs, are perfect for planting at lawns or in unique plant groupings. They form reliable covers, summer hedges, or provide background for lower growing species. You can distribute large dahlia bushes all over your property. They look great near a balcony or terrace and surrounding small garden architecture.

Dahlia tubers should be planted on sunny situations or in partial shade. Plant them 50 to 60 centimetres apart and 5 to 10 centimetres deep, from April to June. The appropriate exposition to sunlight is crucial for the healthy development and bright, saturated colour of the flowers. Dahlia requires neutral or slightly acidic soil that is rich in nutrients, permeable, and constantly moist. Due to the relatively substantial height and the frailty of the stems, we do not recommend growing dahlia on windy spots. Staking of the flower-carrying stems might be necessary. Dahlia requires watering during extended periods of drought. Its wilted flowers should be removed. Dahlia reacts well to fertilization with manure, compost, and mineral fertilizers.

Dahlia does not belong to plants that winter outside. You must excavate the rootstock in autumn. Trim the stem first and then gently excavate the rootstock. Store the rootstocks in ventilated open boxes in a dry place where the temperature is stabilized between 2 and 4?C. Cover the rootstock with sand or peat for even safer storage. If you discover loss of firmness and wrinkles on the rootstock, you can gently sprinkle it with water with an atomizer.

Each package contains 1 piece of first class rootstock of the Kennemerland dahlia. Basic plant growing instructions can be found on the package.
