The "Viking" pom pom dahlia is a true garden treasure. Its spherical flowers that consists of rows deep red petals make a great impression on everyone. The numerous densely set ray flowers twist inwards and therefore form round pom poms - hence the name of this cultivar group. The "Viking" dahlia will impress you with its ability to produce myriads of blooms that gradually turn into majestic flowers. The average height of this dahlia plant reaches up to 100 centimetres during the high season. The background of the dense, rich foliage brings the most of the beauty of the flowers until autumn. Dahlias are flowering plants that have recently returned into spotlight. Had they been once associated with rustic gardens, they now thrive on modern stylish flower beds and lawns. The "Viking" is a tremendous variety that deserves a spot in front of the house or a showcase place on the lawn.

Dahlias should be planted on sunny sites that should also be sheltered from the wind because of the plants' fragile stems. You can also secure the plants by tying them to poles or using other kinds of supports. Set the individual plants 20 to 50 centimetres apart. Place the tuberous rootstocks circa 5 cm deep, between April and June. Dahlias thrive in sandy-loam, fertile and permeable soil. They require watering during periods of drought. Do not forget to remove wilted flowers. Dahlias react well to fertilization with manure, compost and mineral fertilizers.

Dahlia tubers cannot winter in the ground and need to be excavated after the first frost in autumn. Cut the stems first and then gently dig out the roots. Place them in open boxes that should be kept in a dry room with a stable temperature within the 2 to 4°C range. You can cover the rootstocks with peat to ensure better storage conditions. If you notice a significant drop in firmness and wrinkles on the surface of the roots, you may wet them sparsely with water.
