The Double Ellen Red Lenten rose is a unique plant that produces stunning flowers. The most extraordinary feature of Helleborus orientalis is its flowering period that starts at the end of winter and extends into the first months of spring. The moderately tall, up to 40 centimetres high tufts that are adorned with double flowers, constitute a tremendous decoration of every garden. The colours of the presented variety is subdued and therefore universal. The creamy-white flower centres harmonize with the darker wavy petals. The foliage is ornamental too. The evergreen, denticulated, leathery leaves improve garden appearance all season long. Lenten roses of the Double Ellen series belong to reliably flowering and vigorous plants. This long-lived perennial perfectly fits under trees, as well as other shady spaces that are sheltered from wind.

Lenten rose does not belong to demanding plants. Those dense tufts thrive in the majority of soils, provide the ground is not too compact or clay. Lenten Rose does not like waterlogging and acidic soil either. Choose the site for this plant wisely, as it does not stand transplanting. Plant Lenten rose in the garden in spring, preferably in May or at the end of summer. Watering is required during the summer heat periods. We recommend to fertilize before planting by adding a dab of compost to the soil. Removing older leaves in winter, before the plants start to flower, is also important. This simple measure helps Lenten rose produce brightly coloured flowers in large numbers.
