Pea is the second most popular leguminous plant in Europe. It belongs to the Fabacecae family and is well known all over the world. This plant originates from regions of the temperate climate, where it is often cultivated on industrial scale, but for ages has found its way to home gardens.

Field seed pea is an annual, rather undemanding plant. It prefers cool environment (13 – 18 °C) and therefore belongs to the earliest sown vegetables in our gardens. It is a long–day plant. In order to produce large and tasty seeds it eeds to develop sufficient number of shoots and leaves first. Otherwise it will concentrate solely on producing blooms. One of the main criteria in site selection for pea is avoiding sites, where other legumes have grown before. This helps to prevent the plant from diseases and pests spreaded by previous crops. It should be planted in a well–lit, warm place in rich, high quality soil. These conditions, however, are not indispensible for healthy deveolpment. Pea needs to be watered in the blooming and pod development stage. Field seed pea is harvested in fully ripe state for the dry seeds or for green peas, when the seeds have not fully developed yet. On contrary to the sugar pea the pod itself is not edible.

We offer field pea "Telefon" seeds. This is a tall variety that needs supports. It is considered one of the late varieties. It is widely recommended because of its tasty seeds. The pods developed by this variety grow rather large, 10 to 11 cm long. Pea leaves are vividly green and evenly palmate, consisting of smaller, oval blades. There are large, heart–shaped bracts close to the stems. The plant sprouts tendrils, that help it attach itself to the supports. The flower is typical for the Fabacecae family and takes on white, yellow, pink or red colour. The plant develops a nice habit what allows us to use it as an ornamental plant for covering gazebos, pergolas or fences.

The "Telefon" field seed pea variety can be consumed directly. Its juicy, sweet seeds form a perfect complement to stewed carrots. When preserved, it can be stored for a long time. It fits into all kinds of salads. Green pea balls can also be found in many frozen foods. Dried seeds are processed to purees, vegetarian burgers and fillings. Pea with cabbage belongs to traditional Polish dishes. Those who hve not yet eaten the pea soup should do everything to retrieve this mistake.

The package contains 40 g of field seed pea "Telefon" seeds. You will find growing instructions in the package information.

The quality control process

All our seeds must pass a four-stage quality control process.

Stage one begins with a careful selection of the suppliers. Than we proceed with controlling their crops, foreign producers are not excluded from the quality control process. Plants are checked at every stage of their development: when they start to grow, during blooming and when they start bearing fruit (seeds). At this stage the most important thing is to ensure proper spacing of the plants. Thanks to that obtaining the desired morphological characteristics of each particular species or variety, such as colour, height and shape, can be ensured.

Stage two consists of a detailed verification tests in laboratory conditions. With the use of the highest quality equipment by the highly qualified staff, our suppliers perform more than 30 000 quality checks annually. The seeds that do not meet our requirements are subject to technological refining processes, including drying, cleaning, upgrading and testing again.

Stage three starts with sowing seeds in selected control plots. That way we obtain valuable, exact information concerning their germination that must be maintained at an appropriate level. Simultaneously, the varietal identity of each species is checked at this stage.

Stage four takes place in our warehouses and consists of eliminating seeds that have been stored for too long on our shelves and replacing them with new batches. Each package is stamped with a unique batch number and also with the sow-by-date.

All four stages combined allow us to state with confidence that the seeds we deliver comply with the highest standards and have completed all required control stages with flying colours.
