Golden Watermelon is a variety that features early green fruit, which turn golden as they mature. The fruit are large and almost perfectly round. Their red flesh is very juicy and very sweet, therefore this variety is often grown for the flesh, which is used as an addition to desserts of fruit salads. Golden Watermelon is highly resistant to pests and can be grown in soil as well as under cover.
Growing: sow the seeds in pots (7 to 8 centimetres in diameter) from mid-April to early May. The seeds germinate in around two weeks at 20-24°C. Plant out the seedlings that have developed 4 to 5 leaves into the soil in 1x1m spacings in the second half of May; it is recommended to plant the seedlings out into holes that have been enriched with fertilisers. Grow the plants in covered sunny positions in moist fertile soils.
