Rocket, arugula (Eruca sativa) is an annual vegetable plant intended for field or pot cultivation on balconies and windowsills at home. This plant grow 30 - 60 cm tall. Young rosettes of dark green, erect leaves with a slightly savoury taste form the edible parts of this vegetable. You may harvest them repeatedly, even in winter. They are consumed raw or cooked. Fresh arugula leaves are used for fragrancing olive oil. They contain vitamin C, zinc, iron, organic acids and essential oils. They are added to salads, sandwiches, casseroles, curd spreads, scrambled eggs and pesto sauce.

Seeds of the annual rocket are sown from April to mid-September every 2-3 weeks in row 15 - 25 cm apart or to pots. You should choose a water-retaining soil rich in nutrients. Rocket should grow on sunny or partially shady site. The plants require regular watering and their leaves may be harvested after 4 to 6 weeks after the sow.
