Hosta 'Colored Hulk' forms upright clumps of large, fleshy, distinctly puckered leaves. The lime-green centre of each leaf contrasts strongly with the broad, dark green margin, giving the plant a striking appearance. Above the foliage, stiff stems carry small flowers in white or lavender tones. This variety works well both as a specimen and in group plantings beneath trees and shrubs. It can be planted in shady parts of the garden, in damper positions, and grown in large containers.
Bare roots are best planted from March to May.
The recommended planting depth is 7-10 cm.
Plant 40-60 cm apart to give them enough room to grow.
This variety reaches a height of 30-40 cm.
Flowers from July to August.
This plant is frost hardy and overwinters well.
It looks best where the contrast in the leaves can be used to advantage - for example in uniform plantings or beside plants with calmer colouring. It also works well as a single accent by paths, entrances, or near seating areas, where the details can be clearly seen.
