This highly unknown, beautiful bulbous perennial plant comes from Africa. It is worth an invitation to the garden, where it may present its extraordinary beauty. Striking colour that would enlighten and adorn the garden belongs to the most important ixia features. The "Yellow Emperor" variety is the living proof of this. It will stand out from all garden plants with their yellow blooms decorated with a dark red eye in the middle. Subtle, small leaves add lightness and oriental charm to the plant. This variety is ideal for decorating balconies and terraces, as well as cutting and transforming into colourful, summer compositions.

Blooming takes place during summer months of June and July. These plants grow 40 – 50 cm tall. Ixia should grow on bright, sunny sites on borders or in containers filled with a mixture of peat and sand. It grows best on permeable, light soil. Make sure that is not waterlogged. Water the plants and fertilize once right before blooming in order to stimulate the creation of flowers. We recommend to limit the watering after the blooming. Low resistance to frost connected with the origin of the flower makes mulching it with a layer of dry leaves or straw necessary. Ixia bulbs need to be placed in the ground from September to November. Plant them 6-8 cm deep, keeping 10 cm distances between the corms. Spring planting is also possible in March or April. Excavate the bulbs in autumn before the leaves have dried completely. Store them over winter in a dry, ventilated room at temperature not lower than 10-15°C. To make the task easier, place the small bulbs in planting baskets.
