Maiden silvergrass Malepartus (Miscanthus sinensis) is one of the tall and early flowering ornamental grasses. It quickly grows into extensive and dense, up to 110 cm high tufts that may reach 200 cm during the flowering period. The offered variety attractively changes colour in autumn, as the leaves are initially orange, and later turn into a straw colour. Flowers appear at the end of summer. The sumptuous panicles rise high above the leaves, first red, then silver-grey. This variety looks beautiful in larger goupings on flower beds surrounded by perennials or other species of ornamental grasses. It is suitable for dry bouquets.

Silver maidengrass prefers soils that are rich in nutrients, moderately moist, preferably slightly acidic or neutral. Plants should be planted in spring or fall at a warm and sunny site. They will bloom profusely in such surroundings. Even though the species is frost resistant,it is worth protecting young plants before the winter during the first couple of years.
