Mini Garden series - Common purslane for cultivation on balconies and terraces may allow you to diversify you diet in a tasty and healthy way. Common purslane (Portulaca oleracea), also known as verdolaga or red root, supplies tiny, fleshy, delicious, bright green leaves. They have an excellent citrus-nutty aroma and flavour. You may use them as an original addition to salads or sandwiches, casseroles, soups, sauces and serve them with fresh cucumbers and tomatoes. Common purslane is a true vitamin bomb: it contains plenty of provitamin A, the majority of the B vitamins, vitamin C and is a rich source of antioxidants, omega-3 acids and minerals, such as calcium, magnesium, sodium and iron. Its leaves may be harvested with stems and eaten both raw and cooked.

Purslane grows circa 50 cm tall and develops a compact, erect habit that becomes the plant in pots. The plant offered in our store likes sunny sites and light, yet moist soil that is rich in nutrients. Seeds should not be covered with soil only pressed gently after the sow. Depending on the weather vegetational period of the common purslane lasts 3 to 9 weeks. Leaves are harvested as the need arises during the whole vegetational period, because this presented species quickly regenerates and spreads.

Packages available in our store contain 0.3 g of the Mini Garden common purslane seeds.
