Gladiolus or sword lily, Gladiolus carneus is our proposal for all gladioli lovers. This is a wonderful bulbous perennial that develops pale pink flowers. It is so delicate that it only distantly resembles widely cultivated gladioli cultivars. Should you wish to have such a striking and unique plant in your garden, buy its bulbs now.

The originating from Africa Gladiolus carneus grows maximal 60 cm tall. This charming plant sprouts narrow, pale green leaves. A flowering stalks sprouts from the middle. The funnel-shaped blooms gathered in loose ears typical for this species develop from the bottom. Soft and tender petals take on pale pink colour. The trumpet and the lower petals are dotted with charming, small carmine-red spots. A bunch of purple-coloured stamina is located in the centre of the flower. These elegant flowers please the eyes for up to 4 weeks. Blooming takes place in the middle of summer.

This plant thrives in the full sun. It handles dry sites very well, but does not shy from watering in the summer. The soil needs to be permeable and might be sandy.

This species is ideal for colourful, summer borders and flower beds. This plant looks great in containers that you may place on a patio, terrace or balcony. It adds colour and diversity to rock gardens. It is also a durable cut flower. Bouquets composed of this Gladiolus variety stand out with great style and charm.
