Penny Black is an eye-catching annual trailing plant with heavily branched shoots; it grows around 15 centimetres in height. This variety flowers abundantly from June all the way to the first frosts, while its lovely deep purple flowers have unique white collars which nicely contrast with the abundant green foliage. Penny Black is a wonderful variety to decorate balconies, pergolas or arbours.
Growing: sow the seeds directly into the soil, in planter boxes or in containers from April to May; sow the seeds in rows in 10-15cm spacings. The seeds germinate in 10 to 14 days. Thin the young seedlings in rows in 15-20cm spacings. The plants require moist fertile permeable soils in sunny or slightly shaded positions.
