"Tondo Bianco" radish (Raphanus sativus) is a variety developing snow-white roots. It is recommended for cultivation in the field in spring and autumn. It produces shapely, round roots covered with thin white peel. The flesh is also white and stands out with high gustatory value. What is even more important, it does not tend to get pithy, nor break. Radishes of the "Todo Bianco" variety are very juicy, tender and delicious. These vegetables taste best eaten fresh right after the harvest, as addition to cottage cheese, sandwiches or salads. White radishes also constitute an attractive garnishing to many dishes.
Radish is grown from direct sow to the field. Commence with the sow in March or April already, while the sow for the autumn harvest should take place in August. In order to extend the harvest period it is advised to sow seeds in batches every fortnight. Radish grows best in permeable soils rich in humus and nutrients that have regulated air and water conditions. Radish grown in dry soils will produce elongated, bitter-savoury tasting roots.
