The 'Emena' serradella (Ornithopus sativus) is an annual plant of the fabaceae family that is commonly grown as a forage plant. The plants develop densely branched, slender stems that are almost as juicy and tender as the leaves. The 'Emena' variety grows well after cutting and can be grown as the main crop, undersown, or as a stubble crop. It constitutes fodder that is rich in protein, calcium, potassium and vitamins. This tender and digestible fodder is eagerly eaten by animals as it does not cause flatulence. Serradella plants are not sensitive to close cropping and trampling, hence are perfect for grazing. The presented species can also be used for fertilizing soil, as it supplies the earth with high amounts of nitrogen and other nutrients after it is ploughed in. It is also a melliferous plant, yet not very productive. It constitutes a good complement of the winter supplies.

Serradella is an exceptionally valuable plant as it brings rich yield on light and acidic soils. It is often called the clover of acidic soil. It will thrive in differnt soils, apart from the extremely permeble, waterlogging, and calciferous ones. Early spring is the perfect time for sowing serradella. Sow in July or August for the stubble intercrop. The seeding rate that allows you to grow a dense field is 30 to 40 kg/ha. Serradella used for green fodder should be cut at the beginning of the flowering period. The animals can graze on the serradella pastures until the first frost.

One package contains 1 kg seeds of the 'Emena' serradella. The sow-by date has been printed on the package.
