A tree-mounted squirrel house is an interesting product that will provide small mammals and their supplies with appropriate protection.

Squirrels are exceptionally popular creatures that are eagerly fed and observed by peoples. They delight with their agility, quickness and undisputed charm. They are by no means skittish and like to inhabit the vicinity of our houses, hence one may often meet them in a home garden. If you wish a squirrel family to accompany you for a longer time, it is worth providing it with proper conditions. A house mounted in a tree will become a pantry and safe shelter for the winter and breeding time.

This nesting house with a sloped roof is made entirely of wood. 2-cm thick, solid planks are formed into a sturdy construction. Front pane with a hook lock allows to remove old nests. The offered squirrel house is equipped with a slat intended for attaching to a tree. The opening in the side wall is adjusted to the size of future inhabitants. There is a small step right under the entry hole in order to facilitate entering. The squirrel house presented here is made of charred wood. This finishing ads a natural touch and acts as a camouflage in between tree crowns.

Squirrel houses should be mounted on older trees, 3 - 5 metres high. In case you decide to hang more than one squirrel house on your property, the minimum distance between them should be 10 metres. Squirrel houses should be positioned horizontally or leaned slightly behind. Such positioning will prevent rainwater from falling inside. Please try to make sure that the entry hole is directed to the south. Clean squirrel house at the right time - between mid October and beginning of March. Remove old nests that already lost their round shape. Do not move the wintering nests that you can easily recognize by the said regular, circular shape. Cleaning should take place every 2 to 3 years. Squirrels change their quartiers after a few seasons due to hygiene reasons. Parasites tend to propagate in old nests and effectively discourage these small mammals from continuing inhabiting them.
