The Elegant Lady tulip is a lily-flowered variety. Creamy yellow petals with a pink edge form slender decorative cups. Elegant Lady, a tulip well-known for years, blooms reliably at the end of April and the beginning of May. This is the ideal time for presenting those delicate yet elegantly shaped flowers. Elongated, pointed petals take on a shape characteristic for this tulip group. Petals, attractively bent in the upper part and underscored by the pastel colours, constitute a spectacular garden and home decoration. The stiff and strong stems that grow about 60 centimetres tall beautifully expose the subtly coloured flowers. Narrow green lanceolate leaves are softly wrapped around the stems adding a noble natural touch to them.

Tulips are multi-purpose flowers. They perfectly fit onto flower beds that host other bulbous flowers or perennials. They can also grow on city lawns and in rows alongside buildings. Tulips delight in pots and boxes too. Their long stiff and erect stems make them a perfect cut flower.

Grow tulips on sunny or partially shady situations. You will achieve the best results by planting them in humous, permeable soil that has a neutral reaction. This species should not be planted in waterlogging, clay, or heavy soil. Bulbs could quickly rot in such conditions. Tulip bulbs should be planted 10 to 15 centimetres apart. Planting depth should equal triple the height of the bulb. Water the site after planting. Tulips should be grown in groups of several, up to dozen plants. You do not have to dig out tulip bulbs every year as they are resistant to frost. Remove the stem with the flower rests after it has wilted in order to prevent the plants from developing seeds. Bulbs can be excavated, cleaned, and stored until planting in autumn after the leaves have yellowed and dried. Repeat that treatment every three to four years to maintain the flowering power, divide the bulbs and transplant them to a new site.
