'Vintage Wine' takes its name from its deep wine-pink colour, which immediately catches the eye. Its petals are noticeably shorter and stiffer than those of classic coneflowers - rather than drooping sadly downwards, they form a flat, broad ruff around the dark, strongly domed centre. This gives the flowers a very distinctive, slightly austere look. The plant grows in a compact habit and is sturdy enough that heavy rain or strong wind make no impression on it. It is an excellent choice if you are looking for strong, lasting colour that will remain in the garden from summer until the first autumn chills.
