The Welsh onion (Allium fistulosum L.) of the 'Entita' variety is a perennial vegetable plant that is grown for its thick aromatic leaves. It grows quickly and spreads broadly by developing the so called bunches. The 'Entita F1' is a single stem medium early cultivar. It produces dense, dark green tubular leaves. It is also resistant to vernalisation - it does not shoot flowering stalks prematurely - and does not develop bulbs. It is perfectly suited for harvesting selected leaves and for harvesting in bundles. Its vegetation period lasts 70 days in spring and about 55 days in summer. Welsh onion is a valued vegetable, whose milder than onion taste allows you to use it in various dishes. It perfectly complements salads, cottage cheese, pasta and many other dishes.

The delicious Welsh onion stands out with high content of vitamin C, minerals and amino acids. The high concentration of flavonoids also belongs to important properties of this vegetable. These compounds have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

The 'Entita F1' bunching onion is a plant that requires sunny or partially shady sites. It prefers moderately moist and permeable soils. It copes with lesser soils, provided they are not too wet or water-logging. The optimal reaction for this relative of the common onion lies between pH 6.5 and 7.5. The plant is resistant to frost and winters in the ground very well. Its vegetation period starts very early, as the young leaves are not bothered by frost. It also tolerates periodical water shortages, but you should not let the plant dry, as this might impair the taste of Welsh onion foliage.

You can sow directly from April to July, but spring is considered the ideal time for this activity. Keep the rows 30 centimetres and the plants 4 to 7 centimetres apart. The germination takes about two weeks. Please make sure to provide the plants with more space at the later development stages. You can also grow Welsh onion from seedlings grown on a hotbed or in a heated room.
