The white cactus dahlia (Dahlia) is not less decorative than the most popular dahlia varieties that grow about one metre tall despite its substantially lower height. The plant that we offer here develops compact, 30 to 40 centimetre tall tufts and is therefore well suited for growing both on flower beds and in larger planters. Semi spherical flowers develop atop its branching stems, over the dentate green leaves. They are built of densely packed, narrow, and long petals that take on a clean white colour and are rolled into thin needles. You can cut them and use in fresh bouquets.
We recommend planting dahlia rootstock in spring. If you wish to grow them in the ground, wait until the last frost has passed. To grow really large, beautifully shaped flowers, grow those perennials on a sunny site or in partial shade, in a fertile, moist, and preferably sandy-clay soil. Loosen heavy soils with gravel, make a too light one more compact with a fed dabs of ground compost. Cactus dahlia flower die off only after the first frost in autumn. This is the moment to dig out the rootstock and store them in a basement or garage.
A single package contains 10 large rootstocks of the white cactus dahlia. You will find the essential plant growing instructions on every package.
