Baby blue eyes (Nemophila menziesii) is an extraordinarily ornamental annual plant. It grows slow and develops dense tufts that grow 15 - 30 cm tall. In summer these green hills of dentate leaves are covered with numerous pale blue flowers with white centres. These blue tufts will adorn your garden from early summer to mid-autumn. Small blooms will attract butterflies, bees and other species of useful insects. This species will look great in rock gardens, planted on border edges, alongside walls and paths. It offers you a nice way to fill hanging baskets, as well as containers and boxes that adorn balconies and terraces.
Baby blue eyes grows well from seeds sown mid-spring. This species does not like transplanting, so its seeds should be sown directly at the place they are supposed to grow. Seeds germinate after approximately two weeks. Abundant growth and blooming can be achieved on a sunny site, although baby blue eyes may also grow in partial shade. This plant prefers well drained soils rich in nutrients and water.
