Carrot "Cidera" (Daucus carota) is a medium late variety (vegetation period lasts 140 - 150 days) intended for autumn harvest. Its roots grow 16 - 18 cm long, take on cylindrical shape and present very tasty, juicy, orange-coloured flesh. Roots do not turn green. They are recommended for direct consumption and delicious juices and purees. The Nantes-type carrots are tolerant to high temperatures and little amount of rain. Carrots of this variety are also resistant to powdery mildew.
Carrot belongs to the most important vegetables in our daily diet. It is valued for its taste, low-calorie content and high amounts of beta-carotene, the source of vitamin A. Carrot roots contain large amounts of calcium, phosphorus, magnesium and iron. Carrot shows antiparasitic and antidiabetic effects, acts as a diastolic agent and regulates digestion process.
Seeds of the "Cidera" carrot are sown to the ground from April to May in 30-40 x 3-5 cm spacings. After the sprouting young plants are pricked, leaving 5-8 cm distance between the plants. Roots may be harvested in September and October. Carrot grows best in light, humous, moist, sandy-clay soils with low nitrogen content.
