The double flower red Lenten rose is a marvellous plant that surprises with its flowering period. This 30 to 40 centimetres tall perennial produces beautiful, dark green, leathery leaves that form rather dense tufts. The first buds may unfold even in December, while the peak of the flowering time should be expected in January and February. The time and volume of the flowering depends on the weather - it cannot be to frosty and too dark. Lenten rose is a sturdy and long-lived plant. It grows slow and prefers partial shade. It does not like transplanting due to its long roots. Lenten rose prefers humous, fertile, permeable soil. A compact, clay, heavy soil does not suit them well. Do not forget to water Lenten rose in summer - this is the time when it develops flower buds for the upcoming season. Removing old leaves and wilted flowers to prevent the latter from producing seeds is also important. Lenten rose can grown and winter on one site for many years.
