The large-flowered "Brillant" farewell-to-spring (Godetia grandiflora) is an exceptionally ornamental annual plant. It develops branched stems that grow 30 to 50 cm tall. The large flowers may reach diameters of 8 cm. They appear in the leaf corners, alongside the erect stems. The silky flowers take on an intense, scarlet colour and develop all summer long. Farewell-to-spring grown in larger groupings looks way better than in company of other species. It fits into borders and edgings and looks adorable in bowls and pots on balconies and terraces.
Godetia seeds should be sown early in spring onto a hotbed or in May directly to the soil on the permanent site. The seedlings should be transplanted there in May in 15 - 20 cm spacings. The large flowered "Brillant" farewell to spring develops and blooms best in the full sun. It likes warm sites and withstands droughts, even though it may also be planted in partial shade. Rather heavy, sufficiently moist soils rich in nutrients suit this species well.
