The Franco Zecca gladiolus is a variety that produces vividly red flowers adorned with a white spot in petal centres. Its large blooms form a row at a tall stem that is surrounded by flatly arranged leaves from two sides. A long ear-shaped cluster may hold from 15 to 20 flowers. These densely packed, slightly waved flowers constitute a true feast for the eyes. The vivid, marvellous colour attracts attention not only to borders where you plant Franco Zecca gladioli, but to vases that hold huge bouquets of its flowers. A spectacular, tall gladiolus belongs to those plants who can reliably rejuvenate perennial borders that flower in summer.
Gladioli will thrive at sunny spots where they are not disturbed by strong wind. Plant the bulbs on carefully prepared sites where no other bulbous plants have grown before. The soil for growing gladioli should be loosened, humous and permeable. Bulb planting time starts already in mid-April when the soil has warmed up sufficiently and dried after the winter. Place the slightly flattened corms the pointed side up into 8 to 12 centimetre tall holes, about 15 centimetres apart. These large bulbs bear plants that produce huge inflorescences. We recommend separating the bulbils that appear each year, as gladioli propagate very well from them.
One package contains 5 gladioli bulbs of the presented variety. These bulbs are sized 12/14 centimetres in circumference. The basic plant information and growing instructions can be found on the package label.
