The "Oscar" large-flowered gladiolus combines noblesse and style. Its uniform, deep colour that spreads over its flower will leave no one indifferent. The slender gladiolus silhouettes fit onto showcase flower beds and more romantic arrangements. These charming flowers are eagerly grown for cut flowers. The "Oscar" gladiolus is a colourful dandy. Dressed in his crimson red tuxedo he gladly accepts a place on a flower bed from which it looks down on its companions. The velvety petals of its broad cups are subtly frizzled at the edges. The anthers of the similar colour to the calyx are gathered in the centre of the flower. The over 100 centimetres tall gladioli constitute an indispensable part of summer beds and lawns.

Gladioli have been grown for years in rustic gardens. They are now commonly used in modern minimalistic gardens, natural plantings and even forest compositions and on edges of water reservoirs. Gladioli are multi-purpose plants that harmonize well with lower growing species. They allow you to create marvellous multi-level compositions. They fit well into elegant arrangements but they will also add a charming note to a rustic flower bed. Their slender erect habit predestines them for cultivation in pots and planters. This feature allows you to place them on a balcony or in a terrace corner. As soon as the first flower buds open, the stems are ready to be cut. A tall gladioli bouquet arranged on the floor in the living room will add a noble touch and light up the room.

Plant gladioli on sunny sites that are also sheltered from the wind. In order for them to bloom abundantly they need a thoroughly cultivated, humous, permeable soil. The appropriate soil reaction for this species lies between 6.5 and 7.0 pH. Water them as the need arises with a gentle flow. Avoid pouring water over the leaves.

Plan the planting of gladiolus bulbs for end of April and beginning of May. Set the bulbs 8 to 20 cm apart and 8 to 10 cm deep. The too shallow planted gladioli are prone to be broken by the wind and sensitive to water shortages. The large flowers of these gallant plants might require staking.

This species does not winter in the ground - you have to excavate the bulbs in autumn. This task is usually performed from mid-September until end of October. Cut the stems off the excavated tubers that should be dried in the sun or in an airy place. Clean the tubers and store them until next season. The storing place of gladioli bulbs should be cool and ventilated.

One package contains 5 gladioli bulbs of the presented variety, sized 14+ cm in circumference. The basic plant information and growing instructions can be found on the package label.
