"Mera" hoary stock (Matthiola incana annua) is a charming annual plant that develops strong, unbranched stems densely covered with large, spiky, tomentose leaves that appear greyish. It stands out with double, pleasantly smelling, white blooms that are gathered atop the stems in long, ear-like inflorescences. Depending on the time of the sow, blooms appear on the plants from April to August. Hoary stocks grow 50 - 60 cm tall. They are fitted for cultivation on borders in company of other annual and perennial plants. It also provides you with great cut flowers.
"Mera" hoary stock is perfectly fitted for a forced culture under covers. Seeds may be sown from December to February to boxes in a heated greenhouse. Prick out seedlings to separate pots after the emergence, choosing only the pale green ones. The well developed seedlings may be cultivated further in the greenhouse for cut flowers or transplanted in May to the garden. In the latter scenario seedlings should be planted on borders in 20 x 30 cm spacings. These plants require sunny sites and moderately moist, permeable soil rich in humus and calcium.
One package contains 1 g of the "Varsovia Mera" hoary stock seeds, as well as the sow-by date and growing instructions.
