Microgreens are young plants harvested at an early development stage. They become ready for consumption after they have developed cotyledons and one pair of true leaves. They contain more vitamins and nutrients than sprouts or developed plants. Adding young purple perilla leaves to dishes will enhance their nutritional value and add flavour to the taste and looks. This plant is valued in Asia for gustatory and medicinal assets. It contains plenty of vitamins, minerals and flavonoids, essential oils and other substances with beneficial effects on our body. It shows strong anti-oxidating, anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic effects.
Growing Microgreens is easy, quick, does not require special skills nor plenty of space. Microgreens seeds may be sown all year long. You would only need a container or a box, soil, seeds and water. Sprinkle the seeds densely on the layer of soil and spray with water two times a day. Place the culture in warm and sunny place. The plants will be ready for consumption after approximately 2 - 3 weeks after the sow, when first true leaves emerge on them.
