Persian cyclamen (Cyclamen Persicum) is widely recognized as pot plant. Cyclamens are a rare sight in gardens, since they are not frost resistant and their bulbs need to be excavated before the winter. These low growing, up to 15 cm tall, plants appear in the gardens early in spring or late in autumn. These plants adorn not only with their blooms, but with their foliage, too. The leaves take on different shapes, from heart-shaped, through kidney-shaped, to dentate. An incredible, silvery, marble-like pattern appears usually on their surface. Flowers sit atop leafless stalks and develop well before the leaves. These blooms are relatively small, but are fragrant and come in large numbers. They have characteristically erect petals. Blooms of the plants offered in our store take on dark pink colour.

This species has clearly formulated requirements. It likes partially shady, wind-sheltered and warm sites. The soil should be humous, permeable and with a neutral or slightly basic reaction. It is important, that the site for cyclamen cultivation is not too moist, because this exposes the tubers to rotting and mould. Plant them shallow. Even though they tolerate Central European conditions well, they should be covered with twigs before the winter.

Cyclamens planted in garden fit under trees and shrubs. They look great in the sheltered caves of rock gardens. You may also create magnificent arrangements in shallow bowls and pots with these plants that become the most beautiful after a few years when they would have spread broadly. They might even serve as an unusual covering plant.
