Purple Shiso is an annual variety, which grows 60 to 80 centimetres in height. This dense plant produces very unique and highly decorative leaves in a very distinctive deep purple to black shade. Purple Shiso greatly contrasts with other plants that are cultivated in the garden. It can also be grown in various planters or flower beds. Moreover, this variety is very useful in making hedges.
Growing: sow the seeds under heated cover from March to April. The seeds germinate in 14 to 20 days at 15oC. Plant out into a permanent position in 30-40cm spacings in May. The plants require fertile soils in sunny positions. Five grams of seeds produce around one thousand plants.
